The Idaho Centennial Trail travels through some of the most remote and scenic wilderness areas in Idaho. The trail extended roughly 900 miles from the Idaho-Nevada border north to the US-Canada border. The trail has three alternate routes that can be taken around the Sawtooth Wilderness, Frank Church and Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness areas, and the Kelly Creek backcountry area. Each alternate route offers differences in mileage, terrain, and multiple trail uses. Most hikers travel south to north due to the changes in weather and terrain, passing through the desert early in summer, then the Sawtooth Mountains after the snow melt in mid-summer, and finally the north country before winter weather rolls in. Many sections of the ICT are very remote and may require route-finding skills.
