The Highlands Trail runs from the Delaware River in NJ at Musconetcong Gorge up through New York and to the Hudson River at Storm King Mountain. The Highlands Trail is currently at 172 miles with plans to expand the trail on both the East and West ends. In New York, the trail coincides with parts of the Appalachian Trail and the Long Path, and in New Jersey, the trail passes through several management areas and private lands, causing few camping options. Camping on the Highlands trail in not permitted, so hikers should plan ahead for other camping and lodging options.
