The Bartram Trail is a series of trails that follow the route that 18th-century naturalist William Bartram took on his southern journey from 1773 to 1777. According to the Bartram Trail Conference, the route he took covered Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee. However, the traditional trail covers 116 miles through Georgia and North Carolina. The southern trailhead can be found at Russell Bridge on Georgia SR 28 at the South Carolina state line. The northern terminus is at Cheoah Bald, North Carolina. The resources for the Bartram Trail are separated and managed according to state. The trail is designated as a National Recreation Trail.
