The Appalachian Trail (AT) is a 2192 mile foot path that travels from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Baxter State Park, Maine passing through a total of 14 states. The AT is designated as a National Scenic Trail and is maintained by thousands of volunteers in several trail organizations. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is responsible for the overall maintenance and land stewardship of the trail. The AT is one of the most populated long distance trails in the United States, with thousands attempting a thruhike each year.
